27 October 2023: Establishment of the organisation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
DAMIEN FORTUNA ANNOUNCES FOUNDATION OF WORLD MICRONATIONAL CHESS FEDERATION
Organisation claims mantle of Inter-Micronational Chess Federation, which dissolved during 2014/15 cycle
United Kingdom – 27 October 2023 – Damian Fortuna, interim President of the World Micronational Chess Federation (WMCF), announced the establishment of the WMCF today.
“The lack of a formal governing body for chess in micronationalism for this long has been a shame, given the success of previous events in the sector such as the Austenasian Decennial contest,” Fortuna said. “The WMCF hopes that by innovating technologically on previous attempts at standardising chess play in micronationalism, we can deliver a more compelling experience.”
Role
Like its macronational counterpart, the WMCF hopes to conduct a number of chess competitions, most notably a continuation of the contest from 2013: the Micronational World Chess Championship.
It has also established a central governing body, the Presidium, which has begun issuing ordnances – including one to announce the championship.
It will also begin rating players and issuing titles to high scorers.
Background
The WMCF claims continuation of a predecessor organisation, the Inter-Micronational Chess Federation, which conducted the last recognised micronational world chess championship.

27 October 2023: World Micronational Chess Federation announces first World Championship
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
WORLD MICRONATIONAL CHESS FEDERATION ANNOUNCES FIRST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Competition to determine new champion given vacancy since 2014
United Kingdom – 27 October 2023 – Damian Fortuna, interim President of the World Micronational Chess Federation (WMCF), announced the WMCF would conduct the first Micronational World Chess Championship since 2013.
The rules of the contest will be set out by future guidance issued by the Federation’s governing body, the Presidium, but is expected to contain a round-robin element given the short time-frame available to conduct the championship before the end of the year.
The WMCF hopes to complete the contest before 15 December so a new champion can take the title for the 2023/2024 season, which runs from 15 December 2023 and 15 December 2024.
