WORLD MICRONATIONAL CHESS FEDERATION

ORDNANCE 001: ANNOUNCING THE PROPOSED STRUCTURE OF THE 2023 MICRONATIONAL WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

Preamble

1.    The World Micronational Chess Federation (hereafter the WMCF) is the international organisation responsible for the regulation and governance of micronational chess.

2.    For this purpose, the WMCF is responsible for determining the identity of the current micronational world chess champion.

3.    On 27 October 2023, the World Micronational Chess Federation published Ordnance 001, regarding the current world chess champion, announcing that no chess champion exists and authorising the WMCF to conduct a World Chess Championship to resolve the vacancy, instructing that that Championship take place before the end of 2023.

Proposed structure of the 2023 Micronational World Chess Championship

1.    With consideration given to the short timeframe available to conduct the tournament, entry requirements are as follows:

a.      Registration on the website;

b.      Possession of a MicroWiki article;

c.      Possession of a Lichess.org account in good standing.

2.    The World Chess Championship shall take place over two stages:

a.      If there are more than four contestants, Stage One is a single round-robin competition in which every player shall play every other player once. At the conclusion of that Stage, the top eight players will progress if more than eight players exist; otherwise, the top four players will progress.

b.      If there are fewer than four contestants, or if Stage One is complete, the remaining contestants will engage in a single elimination contest to determine the Champion. Each contestant will play one other contestant in a string of three matches to determine a winner. If no winner is determined after three matches, successive matches will be conducted until a winner is determined. The loser of each match will be eliminated.

c.      Once only two players remain, a final elimination round over three matches will begin. The winner of that round will be named world chess champion for 2023.

3.    The World Micronational Chess Federation will issue further guidance and guidelines, and will publish rules and procedures for the event on its website (to be announced).

Ordnance issued by interim President, Damian Fortuna, on October 29 2023.
