I'd like to say my point of view on this, and thanks for letting me. First of all, the micronation in question is the "UMMOA" or "United Micronations Multi-Oceanic Archipelago" (if I'm not wrong) and not the "OMMOAsmall", as this is only the file name of the flag.

Secondly, the point raised by Cesidio Tallini (the leader of the UMMOA) is not the one you probably understood. The petition does not ask to recognize micronations as "states" but as "nonprofit legal socio-economic entities" that are treated by Governments like churches (or religious groups in general). Also, Tallini states that Obama should recognize those micronations "not for the purpose of profit, but for the nonprofit purpose of fostering community, positive societal change, progress, and freedom", which is different from the concept of "chaos". More or less, what Tallini is asking to President Obama is simply to respect the Montevideo Convention that the US signed about 80 years ago.

I have not always agreed with Cesidio Tallini, but this time he is stating a "maybe impossible", yet legitimate point of view, and I support it. --Cajak [★MicroWiki Admin★] 09:50, August 29, 2010 (UTC)

It is more or less legitimate.

According to the Montevideo Convention, micronations don't need to be recognized to exist as independent and legitimate states. The macronational governments are not doing anything which conflicts with the Convention. They just simply choose to ignore us. Assuming that is completely fine with us, and their ignorance is what defines the term "micronation" the petition is ridiculous and will accomplish nothing in terms or micro-macronational relations.

To have Obama or any other government give any mind is simply not going to happen. I'm sure most of us would rather be called "states" by our peers instead of someone from a macronation calling us "nonprofit entities". AuburnAttack21 00:14, August 31, 2010 (UTC)
