Foundation Day Address, 2022
13th April 2022, County of Maternia
Good afternoon citizens, and welcome back to Foundation Day.
It is good that this event is happening because it has felt recently that Adammia has been defined by things not happening. Whether that's Foundation Day in the previous two years being cancelled or scaled back due to the pandemic, or more recently, our struggles to hold a contested election.
I do need to discuss the political situation briefly. In a nutshell, the election which was due to take place last month has been cancelled as once again there were not enough candidates. The parliament which was returned unopposed in October will remain in power for the time being. It is clear that our first attempt at reform did not go far enough, and that much more drastic changes are needed. In my mind, this could entail abolishing the House of Citizens, a smaller Ruling Council, and a return to directly electing the Prime Minister. I hope to discuss this properly with the Ruling Council in June.
I myself need to find more time. Although my unprecedented fifth term as Chair of the Grand Unified Micronational is a testament to the strength of Adammic diplomacy, it does leave me with less time for domestic affairs. My candidacy in the UK local elections is also very time consuming. However, I don't want to spend what little time I do have organising elections that don't happen and writing constitutional amendments that don't fix the problems. I want to be finishing the History of Adammia book and working on version 2.0 of our website. I think we can all agree that Adammia needs to be less about politics for politics' sake. After all, when I see you all this time next year, it will be Adammia's tenth Foundation Day, and we will want to focus on putting on a celebration worthy of such a massive milestone.
Before that, though, we have this Foundation Day to celebrate, and I must say how great it is to finally be doing it properly again, albeit in a different venue than usual. So enjoy the rest of the day. Seek wisdom and honour, and long live the Empire. Thank you.
