Preamble

WHEREAS diplomatic convention provides that all diplomats ought to recognize and respect one another’s names, titles, and styles of address that reflect their usage,
WHEREAS the names, titles, styles of address, and pronouns of transgender micronationalists have been selectively and deliberately disrespected,
WHEREAS the signatories consider it a priority to provide for decent respect and dignity for micronational leaders, diplomats, and government officials who are transgender and queer,
WHEREAS the respect of personal privacy is a universal value of the micronational community,
WHEREAS the signatories are LGBTQ+ or allies,
THEREFORE, the signatories pursue the following accord to protect and foster the necessary diplomatic respect for diplomats, officials, and representatives who are transgender and queer.

Article 1

The parties shall respect the names, titles, styles of address, pronouns, and gender identity and expression of governmental officials of all recognized states and of all LGBTQ+ micronationalists

Article 2

In the case any party should habitually disrespect the names, titles, styles of address, pronouns, and gender identity and expression of LGBTQ+ micronationalists, a party to this accord 1. may refuse to communicate the name, title, and style of address of the contravening party; 2. may censure the contravening party in multilateral venues, when and where relevant; 3. will notify other parties of the contravening party’s behavior and inform parties of actions taken against the contravening party; 4. will publicize their actions and decision against the contravening party; 5. will respect the privacy of the contravening party and not disclose their private information.

Article 3

The parties envision a cooperative process to build a large coalition to address violations of the principles in Article 1 that informs parties of instances, and the international community of patterns, of transphobia and that encourages multilateral cooperation in diplomacy.

Article 4

The parties call upon micronationalists at large to respect and act according to the principles of this accord.

Article 5

This accord will be named the Augusta Accord, after the town of Augusta in the Commonwealth of New Virginia. This accord shall come into effect in each party immediately following its ratification by each respective government.
