25th December 2017, County of Maternia

Citizens of the Empire, I extend my greetings. On behalf of my office, I would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

As we approach the end of 2017, we have the opportunity to pause and reflect on a year which has seen the biggest upheaval in Adammia since its foundation five years ago. After months of stagnation and inactivity, the Empire was given a chance for a fresh start by moving its government to new provinces in Birmingham. This process of transition, which we have worked hard on in the final months of the year, has revitalised the Empire. For the first time in several years, our population has grown significantly, and I would like to welcome all of our new citizens to Adammia. New leaders have stepped forwards to run our government, and I trust they shall do so as fairly and effectively as the governments which came before them.

Christmas reminds us of the idea of "peace and goodwill to all men". However, this is a principle which should apply all year round. It is a message which warns us against being judgemental or bigoted towards our fellow human beings. Throughout Adammic history, I have always tried my best to ensure that the state is not needlessly judgemental towards its citizens, in order to avoid the mistakes of nations which have come before us. The Supreme Directive expressly forbids discrimination on the grounds of gender, race, sexual orientation or faith. I am looking forward to seeing legislation which both the government and the opposition are planning on bringing forward in the new year which seeks to reinforce these rights.

Although Christmas is a religious festival, its core message of peace and goodwill is a secular one, which all the nations of the world can learn from. Against a backdrop of increasing tension on the world stage, in acknowledging this message, I reaffirm Adammia's commitment to being a peaceful nation. We firmly believe that all diplomatic options should be exhausted before resorting to military force. However, it is not just nations which benefit from this principle. We all, as individuals, should act diplomatically, and avoid needless conflict.

On that note, I would once again like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Seek wisdom and honour, and long live the Empire.
