Adam I's Christmas Broadcast, 2016
25th December 2016, Province of Maternia
Greetings, people of the Empire and foreign observers; Our Imperial Majesty wishes you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Ladies and gentlemen, this past year has been a difficult one for Adammia. In April, we lost Our Majesty's most esteemed grandmother, the Duchess of Tytannia; as a nation we opted to mourn her passing at the time we would normally be celebrating our Foundation Day. This event reiterated for us the importance of family in our lives, and that is the core of what I wanted to reflect upon in this broadcast to the Empire. In the obituary I wrote for the Adammic Express, I credited the late Madam Winifred Hall for having created a very strong family whose members support each other through thick and thin; as I put it, raising her children to be good people such that they would in their turn raise their children to be good people. The Imperial Family has been truly blessed by the efforts of the Duchess and her husband the Archduke of East Adammia Sir Reginald Hall to create this kind of family and the positive impact it has had on the lives of Our Majesty and our siblings is undeniable; without it, the Empire as we know it would not even exist.
It is therefore with much sadness that I see many families which are dysfunctional and do not support each other as the House of Hall does. Family should bring out the best in people but there are citizens of this great realm, including friends of mine, for whom the opposite is true. However, there is something else I have learned this year: it is not always just blood relatives who bring out the best in us, but others, friends, mentors, lovers. The importance of family is really the same as the importance of making sure you surround yourself with people who make you better, stronger, wiser, and ultimately happier. Such people deserve the upmost respect and we should support them as they support us. Adammia enters 2017 facing fresh challenges and fresh opportunities. We want to build upon our work this year to broaden our horizons and spread the word of the Empire to new corners of the globe. The strength of family ties both for the Imperial Family and for all citizens of the Empire will empower us to meet the future head-on.
On that note, we would once again like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Seek wisdom and honour, and long live the Empire.
